When most people start planning a group trip to a city like Paris, they focus on the big-ticket items first.
The hotel.
The “must-see” restaurant.
The Instagram-famous café.
The tour everyone online recommends.
But one of the biggest mistakes we see trip planners make is building an itinerary around individual places instead of building around the flow of the city itself.
Because the truth is, travelers don’t remember a destination by how many taxis they took across town.
They remember how the city felt.
They remember wandering through side streets on the way to dinner.
Stopping at a café they accidentally found.
Walking past local flower shops and bakeries.
Sitting in a park because they had free time and felt comfortable exploring.
That’s the difference between a trip that feels rushed… and one that feels immersive.
And honestly? That difference usually comes down to one thing:
Walkability.
The Best Trips Aren’t Built Around Constant Transportation
One of the biggest things we teach inside Travel Her Way Collective is that your itinerary should not require your travelers to spend half the day commuting between activities.
Yes, there are times when transportation is necessary.
But if every dinner requires a 30-minute train ride…
Every activity requires a taxi…
And your hotel is isolated from everything else…
Your travelers never really get to experience the city organically.
Instead, they experience transportation logistics.
When someone visits Paris, they don’t dream about spending their evening underground on the metro trying to get to the “viral” restaurant someone recommended on TikTok.
They imagine walking through charming streets.
Passing cafés filled with locals.
Seeing little boutiques and hidden bakeries along the way.
Feeling like they’re inside the city, not constantly trying to navigate across it.
That’s why when we build itineraries, we prioritize trip flow just as much as the activities themselves.
Google Maps Is One of the Most Underrated Trip Planning Tools
One of the best tools you can use when vetting vendors, hotels, restaurants, and activities is actually incredibly simple:
Not just for directions, but for understanding the layout and energy of a city.
Before choosing a hotel, zoom out and ask yourself:
- What’s within a 10–15 minute walk?
- Are there restaurants nearby?
- Are there cafés, shops, parks, or attractions close?
- Does the neighborhood feel active and safe?
- Would travelers enjoy wandering here during free time?
Because free time matters.
You do not want your travelers feeling trapped in a hotel area where the only option is calling a taxi every time they want to eat or explore.
The best trips give travelers room to breathe and discover the city on their own.
That’s what creates memorable experiences.
Not Every “Top Recommended” Vendor Is Right for Your Trip
We get asked all the time:
“Who does Travel Her Way Collective recommend for vendors?”
And the honest answer is…
We don’t believe in one permanent “perfect vendor list” for every country or city.
Because vendors are only as good as their latest experience.
A tour company that was incredible one year can decline the next.
A restaurant everyone raves about online may not fit your group’s vibe.
A highly recommended guide may not align with your travelers’ expectations.
That’s why we always encourage trip planners to vet vendors for themselves, even when someone else recommends them.
You should always research:
- Recent reviews
- Location and accessibility
- Communication quality
- Group friendliness
- Consistency
- Walkability within your itinerary
- Whether the experience actually matches the type of trip you’re creating
Because what works for someone else’s audience may not work for yours.
And that’s okay.
Your Travelers Want Experiences, Not Just Checklists
One of the biggest shifts successful travel planners make is realizing that travelers don’t actually want to spend their entire trip rushing from attraction to attraction.
They want balance.
They want moments that feel natural.
Sometimes the most memorable part of a trip isn’t even the scheduled activity.
It’s the walk to dinner.
The café they stumbled into.
The neighborhood market they explored during free time.
The quiet morning wandering the streets before the city woke up.
Those moments only happen when your itinerary gives travelers space to experience the city instead of constantly transporting them through it.
